Interdisciplinary research: the necessary approach for complex contemporary global issues

Over the last three decades, researchers at Université Laval have developed a unique tradition of research in international issues. Under the leadership of Canadian innovators like Albert Legault, Paul Painchaud and Ivan Bernier, important contributions were made in such topics as nuclear dissuasion, the foreign policies of medium powers, and the international dimensions of federalism. The originality and impact of their research is largely due to the relatively early combination of both an interdisciplinary approach and a solid methodology in a newly-forming field.

Today, the HEI consists of a solid network of researchers recognized for their expertise in the fields of international security, sustainable development, European integration, the Americas, international trade, etc. They are active in the numerous interdisciplinary research centers and contribute to a vast program of scientific animation and publications.
